Change Inertia

Change, however small, generates an emotional response in most individuals, teams and organisations. These emotions can affect the inertia which all changes must overcome.

·      We understand the tensions that exist within organisations, large and small.

·      We understand that the big picture sometimes needs to be personalised

·      We understand the need to ensure that each individual and team understand their role in delivery.

Understanding the rationale and goals can minimise inertia and resistance – this is why it is imperative that the reasons for change are communicated clearly.

Speed vs. Progress

There is a natural reaction from those tasked with delivering change to see rapid progress.
The challenge is how to measure progress instead of just measuring change.

Speed of change, simply measuring the rate of change, is a false metric to measure success. The velocity of the change, confirming the changes are directed towards the goal, is the real measure of success.

We have the experience to step out of the detail and confirm the direction of travel. We can recognise when the pressure to show progress is getting in the way.

By helping people understand the goals underlying the direction of travel they can begin to assist in their fulfilment.
